A 1977 graduate of the Auburn College of Veterinary Medical Medicine, Dr. Fontaine is a past president of the Southeast Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and is a member of the Greater Dothan Veterinary Medical Association. In addition, he maintains memberships in the AVMA and ALVMA. Practicing in the Wiregrass since 1977, he opened Westwood Pet Care in 2002.
He and his wife, Adrienne, have one son, Dan, and a daughter-in-law, Laura, and a grandson, Evan. Dr. Fontaine enjoys a number of hobbies including music (jazz bass, guitar and banjo), riding his recumbent bicycle, cooking and gardening.
Erick Schwartzkopf, DVM
Many Westwood clients already know Dr. Erick Schwartzkopf. He was with us part-time in 2017 and has now taken a permanent full-time position. Dr. Schwartzkoph is a self-described "army brat". He spent a large part of his youth growing up in Ozark. He served four years in the navy after graduation from high school and before getting his veterinary degree from Auburn University. After graduation from veterinary school Dr. Schwartzkopf practiced in Georgia for nine years and then did mission work for a year. After completion of his mission work he practiced part-time in several wiregrass area veterinary clinics including Westwood.
Dr. Schwartzkopf and wife Cheryl have three sons. One is a student at Auburn; one is in high school and one is in middle school. Despite a busy schedule of appointments and surgeries he finds time to help coach his son's soccer team and is active in his church and community.
You will find Dr. Schwartzkopf to be extremely competent, compassionate, dedicated, and caring. He is a most welcome and valuable asset to Westwood Pet Care!
Lynn is Westwood's most avid cat lover. In her years at Westwood we have lost count of the number of cats she has had as pets. Many now live with her father, who is also a cat lover. Lynn graduated from Daleville High School.
Lynn and her husband Fred have one son, now serving in the Army. Her smiling face can usually be found at the front desk, helping our clients or in the back, loving on the cats who are staying with us. Lynn stays busy at Westwood, with her family and her church, but finds time to enjoy watching baseball. She loves the Atlanta Braves and the Montgomery Biscuits.
Kim is a Dothan native and a graduate of Rehobeth High School. She is attending Wallace Junior College and is preparing to earn her degree as a veterinary technician. Kim may be found most anywhere at Westwood. She does animal care and assists with exams and treatments. She is also learning lab techniques. Kim is married and has 3 cats and a German shepherd. Kim enjoys movies and travel and is a sports fan. She is an Auburn supporter and also a fan of North Carolina State since her grandfather played football there. Kim is a real animal lover and a welcome member of the Westwood team.
Kaitlin joined the Westwood staff in July 2015. She is a Dothan Native who is doing pre-vet studies locally and plans to transfer to Auburn to pursue her DVM degree. Kaitlin has a number of animals both large and small, but says she is most involved with her dog Ava.
While her primary responsibilities are as kennel assistant, she can often be seen assisting with appointments and treatments and occasionally surgery. Westwood folks can look forward to getting to know Kaitlin until she moves to Auburn. We are not sure when that will be, but it will be our loss and Auburn's gain.
When you meet Elizabeth Horn she will almost certainly be smiling. She loves her job and it shows. Elizabeth has been a great addition to the staff and goes about her job cheerfully and efficiently.
She says that her and husband Brian's hobby is supporting their kids in the school athletics and activities. And thankfully, she still has time to assist at Westwood. Elizabeth graduated from Dothan High School. She has a dog named Buddy and a cat, Smokey. She is planning to go back to school in either veterinary or human medicine. We bet she will be a success at whichever she chooses.
Every group has a quiet one. Ours is Haley. Quiet she may be but she is also dependable, hard-working and agreeable. All valuable qualities in a team member.
Haley is a local girl having grown up in Slocomb. Haley has two dogs of her own but enjoys pampering the patients at Westwood by making bandanas for the pets she has bathed. Many of the colognes we are using now are Haley's idea. She really enjoys making our patients look and feel great! That is also a nice asset in a team member! Another great member of the Westwood staff.
Ashley, like so many team members past and present, comes to Westwood because of her love for animals. Ashley is from New Jersey. She has a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and will complete her master's degree in Homeland Security in December. She also has past experience working in veterinary clinics.
Ashley does a little of everything at Westwood. At any given time you can find her sanitizing a kennel, bathing a cat, or answering the phone and providing client information - always with a smile. When she is not at Westwood Ashley cares for her Arabian horse and her German shepherd, Kiowa. Ashley is also a history buff and has worked at a winery.
